This series of paintings, entitled ‘from the flock’, is a series of portraits that examine individuality and identity as a part of a perceived group. These portraits feature the faces of sheep who were members of the flock at my family farm. The works are done in acrylic paint on wood panel which echoes the texture and line of the portraits themselves. Through these works I seek to highlight humans’ unique relationship with domesticated herd animals, whose products we use but whom we picture as ‘the flock’, an undifferentiated whole. These paintings ask us to look at the details within the group that we overlook when we gaze at the flock.
